Working World Wide: The international competence

Do you want to get yourself prepared for an international career? Do you want to learn about different cultures and about how to  adjust to different cultural settings? Do you want to get to know more about international law and about which rules and regulations apply to you? Do you want to understand what is written in newspapers or magazines about economic topics? Do you want to put your knowledge into practice during an international project? Then this minor is just fit for you!

The minor in a nutshell

The minor Working World Wide: The International Competence gets you prepared for an international career by providing a theoretical background and ways and means of applying this background in day-to-day reality. The theory-acquired in the first part of the minor- will be put into practice in the second part of the minor: An international project.

A competence is an integral combination of knowledge, skills and attitude, required for a job. For this minor an international competence has been developed, which is based on four professional aspects. These are in ascending order of complexity:
  • Reporting on relevant international developments.
  • Reporting on relevant (draft) EU legislation.
  • Receiving foreign visitors.
  • Representing your own organization abroad.
Furthermore, you should be able to recognize and adapt to cultural differences. Also, you should have  a proper command of English, both orally and in writing. Five modules:

  1. International context
  2. Culture, e.g. cultural differences
  3. International/European law
  4. International economics
  5. An 8-10 week long international project, through which students obtain or increase practical experience and in which the theory presented in the first part of the minor is applied. The project is carried out individually and can have different forms, depending on the focus of the student.

Human Talent Development

The minor Human Talent Development focuses on the field of Career counseling, Coaching, Training & Development.
In order to become a successful professional, flexibility and employability are equally as important as know-how and competencies. To be flexible and employable you  need to be aware of  your own talents, ambitions and possibilities to grow as a professional. By providing an environment that encourages employees to constantly develop their talents and skills, these employees will keep adding value to the company and society.

In our program our students go through a process of self-analysis and talent discovery, explore their ambitions and their own developmental focus. Equipped with this experience, they put their skills into practice through training delivery and career counseling in order to increase both organizational flexibility and individual employability.

The Human Talent Development program in other words teaches how to guide employees in their professional development:
·          -  Using well developed ‘soft skills’
·          -  Applying  current theories and models of career counseling /coaching
·          - Applying  tools of facilitation and training delivery
It goes without saying that we aim at contributing to your development as a reflective practitioner, so you should enjoy reflecting on your own behavior and agree that personal and professional development are intertwined.
